Location: Jersey City, NJ Position Type: Full Time Job Summary: This role, within the fast growing North American Insurance Division of an SEC company, offers the opportunity for the individual to grow and develop within the Corporate Finance department. The position will provide exposure to the Company's various divisions and operations and provide insight into how the business is managed. This individual will have a high level of interaction with other members of the finance teams throughout the organization as well as interaction with members of the business units and other support teams. Based in the northeast, this position will report to the Director of Financial Reporting. The ideal candidate has strong written and oral communication skills, an analytical mindset, and the ability to multitask in order to effectively manage his or her time across various roles and responsibilities. Responsibilities: Ownership of the quarterly balance sheet close activities, including performing analytical variance analysis and coordinating and leading business unit balance sheet reviews to discuss activity/trends Prepare fluctuation analyses of Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statements for the North American Insurance segment Perform premium receivable aging analyses by business unit, monitor bad debt reserves and calculate Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) reserves ensuring adherence to accounting policy Perform Excess Ceding Commission(ECC) and Deferred Ceding Commission(DCC) calculations Maintain metrics of reported results to provide insight into noteworthy trends and provide valuable data to management for informed decision-making Work closely with key business partners to facilitate an efficient quarterly close to meet reporting deadlines Support continuous process enhancements, including implementing additional technology solutions to further improve efficiencies Support ad-hoc requests for financial information from various corporate and business partners Support adherence to internal controls and applied awareness of risk areas Coordinate complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team and/or with other departments Monitor balance sheet activities including accruals from other business unit finance teams Compile data from various departments to complete ULAE allocation process and record journal entries Demonstrate an understanding of various accounting processes to identify opportunities for improvements Research accounting literature, as necessary, to ensure compliance with GAAP Work with various departments to prepare and maintain the quarterly close calendar Support team with quarterly income statement close activities Work collaboratively and develop strong relationships with business units, operational executives, and managers Participate in or lead special projects, as requested Assist with fulfilling and responding to external audit requests Other duties, as requested Display teamwork, integrity and leadership? Maintain adequate focus on personal growth; proactively seek relevant education and training? Qualifications: Strong desire to facilitate change, add value and succeed as a member of the Corporate Finance team Ability to "think outside the box" and evaluate processes to identify opportunities for improvement? Strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills Knowledge of GAAP and financial statement analysis Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment Detail-oriented, analytical and able to multi-task under tight time frames Proven ability to analyze data and the underlying drivers of financial results Highly motivated and creative problem solver; strategic thinker on financial matters Experience in public company financial reporting is a plus Knowledge of property and casualty insurance operations? Willingness to proactively collaborate and share experience with other members of the team and the broader finance group Inclination to adapt to new circumstances, information, and challenges, with a positive "can do" attitude Strong Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to use complex formulas to manipulate large volumes of data Experience with Cognos, TM1, Great Plains or Onestream are a plus 4 year degree in accounting.
