Job Overview

Design all aspects in Macy's Supply Chain distribution centers material handling and building systems for capital projects. Estimate costs, project timelines and prepare documentation for capital requests. This role can be based anywhere in the United States
Essential Functions

  • Develop design concepts with direction for material handling systems and facility system solutions that meet operational and ongoing maintenance requirements.
  • Apply mechanical engineering to conveyor and sorter components, design and layouts to deliver systems that are jam free and meet operational rates and requirements.
  • Provide engineering requirements for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection designs in support of capital projects.
  • Apply ergonomics and human factors engineering to workstation designs and equipment interfaces to provide the highest level of workplace safety.
  • Work directly with and provide direction to A&E and Material Handling System solutions third parties in support of design efforts.
  • Work with Macy's corporate third-party fire consultant to ensure fire protection solutions meet standards.
  • Partner with corporate safety and wellness to ensure solutions provide the highest level of workplace safety.
  • Participate in the development and design phase of projects. Provide guidance and input on facility and material handling equipment application, design and manufacturer.
  • Assist in the evaluation, design and implementation of new technologies and material handling solutions.
  • Develop of bid specifications for the RFP process of capital purchases. Participate in the evaluation of vendor presentations and proposals.
  • Accurately budget capital projects to align with scope and requirements. Categorize capital spend appropriately for depreciation accounting.
  • Maintain network equipment inventories.
  • Create and maintain accurate CAD engineering drawings for projects and the network.
  • Develop facility egress plans.
  • Other responsibilities deemed essential by leadership.

    Qualifications and Competencies
    • Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university or equivalent
    • 3 years direct experience
    • Proven team leadership and development.
    • Practices open and continuous communication, values keeping others informed, effectively presenting information in a clear, concise manner.
    • Ability to effectively plan and execute strategies.
    • Ability to solve problems as well as recognize issues and deal with them directly
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including day, evening, weekends, and/or holidaysCommunication Skills:
      • Excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills.Mathematical Skills:
        • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisionReasoning Ability:
          • Ability to make sound decisions and manage several processes in a fast paced environment.
          • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

              Physical Requirements

              • Frequent use of computers and other technology necessary to perform job duties.
              • This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.
              • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
              • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time.
              • Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
              • May involve moving or lifting items over 25 pounds.
              • 25% travel required
