Organon - Executive Director, R&D Operational Business Development & Alliance Management This job is available in 2 locations Job Type Full time Merck & Co., Inc., Kenilworth, New Jersey, USA, has made the decision to spin-off products from its Women's Health, trusted Legacy Brands, and Biosimilars businesses to form a new, independent company. This new company, named "Organon", will become an independent, publicly traded company in 2021 with its global and US headquarters to be based in Jersey City, NJ. We expect that additional Organon sites will be in the general vicinity of current Merck & Co., Inc.--locations.

  • Lead the group responsible for end to end activities including evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, implementation and maintenance related to Business Development opportunities impacting Research & Development (R&D) functions including, but not limited to, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Safety, Global Medical, Outcomes Research and Clinical Research, as well as alliance management within the R&D space for existing and new partnerships.
  • The incumbent manages the team responsible for evaluation, diligence, negotiation, and implementation of new business development opportunities and alliance management of existing partnerships.
  • Manage the strategy, negotiation, and provisions of the R&D (inclusive of Clinical, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, Medical, and Outcomes Research) components of the Master Commercial Agreements with external partners involving but not limited to product acquisitions, in-license, collaborations, distribution, co-marketing, co-promotion, acquisitions, and divestitures.--
  • End to End responsibility for R&D implementation and maintenance for all business development partnerships. Serve as the conduit for ongoing alliance management issues between the R&D functions and the partner.
  • Develop, draft and negotiate new ancillary agreements for complex deals that expand on development-related details not fully articulated within the master commercial agreement such as regulatory agreements, medical agreements, etc. Maintain existing ancillary agreements that require updating as the partner relationship evolves over time.
  • Represent the Company in negotiations with external partners and lead the agreement activities that have R&D organizational impact.
  • Negotiates, on behalf of the individual functions, the right strategy with the partner to ensure global compliance for the Company. This includes influence on the external parties as well as internal to the Company, the executive level management, across divisions, and across countries.
  • Interact closely with Legal, Business Development, and Corporate Alliance Management through the execution of strong processes for managing deals in the pre-execution space including due diligence, resource analysis, contractual provisions by deal type, and communications.
  • Fully accountable for relationship management with all business development groups to ensure that all business development deals in ideation are shared with R&D-both through ongoing dialogue and continuing change management as required.
  • Upon execution of all BD deals, ensure that deals are implemented within all R&D functional areas.
  • Direct the resolution of highly complex business problems that have direct influence on the strategy or implantation for the R&D Organization.
  • Apply business and management expertise to drive operational performance across the department and/or R&D organization.
  • The incumbent must be knowledgeable of global regulatory requirements, clinical development practices, and required medical support at a general level and must be able to work with all levels of management within and outside of R&D.
  • Provide leadership and direction through managers and individual contributors.--
  • Presents complex processes, anticipates potential objections and persuades others to adopt a different point of view if appropriate. This includes external parties and internal to Organon (senior level management, and across countries).
  • Serves as a key resource and expert for others in the company in interpreting, developing and applying R&D considerations in the licensing strategy. Demonstrates depth of expertise in licensing and broad knowledge of the functional areas within R&D.Education Requirement:
    • BS Degree preferably in Technical discipline (science, engineering) or Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Nursing, Pharmacy) or related discipline; advanced degree preferableRequired:
      • A minimum of fifteen (15) years in the pharmaceutical industry with a minimum of five (5) years focused on product development or licensing roles
      • A minimum of five (5) years as a people manager of individual contributors or other people managers
      • Must have proven track record to be able to think critically, strategically, independently and problem solve
      • Must have high level of motivation, drive, and demonstration of the Company's leadership values
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and negotiation skills including ability to write clearly and concisely
      • Top notch interpersonal skills in difficult situations
      • Driver of change and innovation
      • Ability to work seamlessly with all levels of personnel
      • Demonstrated sensitivity and knowledge of cultural differences with experience in multi-country, multi-cultural environments and demonstrated success with cross-geographically based cultural collaborations
