mission.The Global Library Services team builds tools and provides
services that help - scientists and other Takeda professionals
-interact with, manage, and consume knowledge from scientific
literature, to foster innovation in drug discovery and development.
The Global Library Services team is integral part of the Takeda
Knowledge Management function, within the Advanced Data Solutions
and Learning (ADSL) organization -The Director, Global Library
Sciences (GLS) will have a broad impact on R&D functions and
strategies in this role. They will drive the team's capabilities by
continuously introducing new ideas and information platforms,
creating collaboration opportunities, and supporting individual
search, copyright and literature search training. -The Director,
GLS will lead team's and cross-functional team's decision making,
based on Takeda's R&D strategies, regarding the purpose, scope,
and method for collaborative projects. They will propose reliable
and efficient solutions for a wide range of R&D intelligence
requests: pharmaceutical industry, disease areas, therapeutics, and
technologies. As a member of the Knowledge Management (KM)
management team they will impact the determination and execution of
the KM overall strategy. -ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Master a sufficiently strong scientific and technical
background to scope and fulfill GLS services. GLS services include
literature searching, knowledge and data extraction,
ontology-enabled text and data mining from scientific literature,
and other information resources, as well as semantic enrichment,
and other library information search services
- Assume primary responsibility of designing, building, budgeting
and managing the Takeda Global Library Services and related content
sources. This role is essential in the establishment of an open,
well-structured and easy to use knowledge base for Takeda.
- Respond to client requests for information by leveraging
scientific domain and information research knowledge.
- Identify and utilize the best available resources to conduct
accurate, comprehensive, and cost-effective searches.
- Exhibit leading edge knowledge of electronic tools and
automation systems supporting the research function.
- Support Takeda's scientists with identifying most relevant
information, published knowledge and deliver customer specific
search & analysis solutions.
- Particular emphasis on full cycle management of the external
literature acquisition, from identification of resources,
contracting, relationship management and financial reporting
- Set organizational strategies, goals, and priorities aligned
with Takeda R&D strategies.
- Lead delivery of impactful and insightful scientific and
competitive intelligence (working in consonance with the SI and CI
department) to internal customers (mostly R&D members) for
their strategic decision making.
- Improve methods and processes (gather, select, analyze, and
summarize information) in terms of both efficiency and
quality.
- Proactively utilize IT or digital technologies to transform the
way of current deliverables into more value-added ones.
- Promote internal collaboration with other R&D teams and
external collaboration with vendors to challenge new projects and
broaden team's capabilities.
- Acquire and develop - specialists within various fields and
specialisms to respond to a wide range of requests from R&D
customers in terms of Takeda-focused therapeutic areas, targeted
diseases, medical targets, and medical technologies.
- Identify and contract with external providers when temporary
staff or competency augmentation is required.
- Identify, contract and supervise vendors when help is needed
outside the core competency areas of the - function (examples: IT
development, digital enablement, metrics and analytics, etc.) - - -

- Analyzes the effectiveness of current processes, and develops
strategies to improve, simplify, enhance and automate
- Evaluates, selects, and maintains the integrated library system
including setting data quality standards and creating reports as
needed for management of the library. Manages software updates in
keeping with company needs
- Motivates and mentors knowledge management leaders to build
junior staff capability, both on-the-job and through specific
training initiatives
- Manages team members including defining annual goals and
targets in alignment with company and department goals, planning
and delegation of projects; and supporting professional development
and continuing education for all team members.
- Contributes to the ongoing creation of intellectual property
that advances the enabling capabilities of the organization,
especially related to unstructured data
- Leads cross-functional collaboration with external vendors and
with customers to gather information, prioritize projects, ensure
common understanding of data flow expectations, and proactively
manage issues
- Identifies customer and operational needs
- Analyzes resources, costs, and forecasts and incorporates them
into business plans; gaining cross-functional support for business
plans and priorities
- Sets standards and measures progress
- Ensures products and/or services meet customer requirements and
expectations while aligning with organizational strategies
- Demonstrates continuous learning and maintains a highly skilled
and engaged workforce by aligning resource plans with business
objectives
- Oversees development of talent; prepares individuals for growth
opportunities and advancement
- Stays current with industry trends, benchmarks, and best
practices
- Follows, oversees, and approves the development of standard
operating procedures
- Directs key performance indicator efforts
- Oversees meetings with multiple vendors to resolve service
failures or issues
- Oversees vendor invoices and provides timely, accurate, precise
and up to date financial information about the approx. $30M
subscription portfolio.
- Oversees the development of plans and coordinates resources for
special projects
- Oversees vendor performance and provides direction for service
improvements or revisions to strategy
- Oversees vendor systems accessEDUCATION, BEHAVORIAL
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS:
- Masters Degree in Library Sciences or equivalent - technology
minor a plus
- Demonstrated subject matter knowledge in library sciences with
practical application experience
- Broad experience utilizing external vendors to effectively
conduct large-scale or any other challenging library science
activity or create novel and valuable information platforms, taking
advantage of vendors' strengths and characteristics
- Five or more years managing operating budgets and/or project
financials
- Four or more years of experience overseeing vendor
relationships
- Eight or more years of supervisory experience
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships across multiple
organizations, in a multicultural environment
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and influence
- Expert knowledge of standards, procedures and practices used
for content lifecycle management
- Ability to quickly develop and understanding of advanced
concepts in emerging information science in order to facilitate
communication about the work of the group
- Deep regulatory compliance expertise
- Systematic problem-solving, quick grasp of things and superior
attention to detail in developing tailored solutions, high degree
of reliability and integrity.
- Interest in working collaboratively, cross-functionally, and in
inter-disciplinary teams with an ability to effectively
communicate, both verbally and in writing to scientists and
non-scientists.
