Job Description:

The vision of the Chubb Knowledge Graph team is to provide a standardized, semantically rich, easily discoverable, extensible, and universally applicable body of domain knowledge that can be consistently utilized across our business processes.

The mission of the team is to create knowledge graphs and linked metadata schemes for interconnected data, topical/indexed query, and search and support of natural language text processing. This important role will help lead the Digital Transformation efforts as Chubb digitizes its products and transforms into a technology enabled company.

As an Ontologist, you work on a global team of knowledge builders to deliver world-class, intuitive, and comprehensive taxonomies and ontologies. You collaborate with business partners and engineering teams to deliver knowledge-based solutions to enable product discoverability for customers.

The Ontologist will work with data engineers, product teams, and other business stakeholders in modeling the insurance process and data space. This individual will also be closely involved with various AI/ML and automation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement ontologies, ontology architecture and data management techniques in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to data integration and mapping efforts to harmonize taxonomies from multiple domains and incorporate metadata into topical, named entity, and geographic ontologies.
  • Analyze and implement knowledge organization strategies using tools capable of metadata management, ontology management, and semantic enrichment.
  • Ensure our ontologies provide comprehensive domain coverage that are available for both human and machine ingestion and inference
  • Develop team operational excellence programs, data quality initiatives and process simplifications.
  • Evangelize ontology and semantic technologies within and across teams at Chubb.
  • Keep abreast of competitor and industry developments related to ontology use, knowledge organization.
  • Influence and participate with governance bodies (e.g., ACORD) to standardize data models.
  • Participate in the overall KG platform architecture development and technical design.
  • Research and provide solutions for complex problems benefitting from knowledge graph support.
  • Mentor and influence junior team members and peers
  • Work through a variety of technical challenges that will require creativity and close collaboration across internal teams, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Able to multitask and know where to add business value, and when to delegate, guide or take ownership.

    • Master's degree in Computer Science, Library Science, Information Systems, Linguistics or equivalent professional experience.
    • 5 years experience with ontologies, taxonomies, RDF/OWL, SHACL, SPARQL, Knowledge Graphs, and related tools
    • 3 Experience working with schema-level constructs (e.g. higher-level classes, punning, property inheritance)
    • 3 years experience managing and publishing multiple, linked ontologies and guiding ontology teams in their journeys and development.
    • 5 years experience working with semantic graph-databases / triple-stores.
    • Working knowledge of database and MDM, warehousing architecture, techniques, design patterns and strategy
    • Strong understanding of system development life cycle; software project management approaches; and requirements, design and test techniques
    • Agile, iterative, incremental delivery experience
    • Experience collaborating with cross functional teams
    • Detail-oriented problem solver who is able to work in fast-changing environment and manage ambiguity
    • Proven track record of strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Proficient English language skills in speaking and writing
    • Exposure to data science and/or machine learning, including graph embeddings
    • Exposure to text analysis, controlled vocabularies, entity recognition,
    • Master's degree in Computer Science, Library Science, Information Systems, Linguistics or equivalent professional experience.
