New York Life is a relationship-based company and appreciates how both virtual and in-person interactions support our culture."This role is a HYBRID based position (Tuesday Wednesdayand Thursday onsite and Monday and Friday work from home)"The Senior API Designer is responsible for the design, analysis, development, implementation, and deployment of new interfaces, web applications, as well as existing systems supporting business objectives while sharing a point of view in all phases of the software development lifecycle: conception, design, testing, production, and maintenance.Primary ResponsibilitiesAnalyzes, designs, and supports the development of applications using standard application design patterns and detailed approaches to application integration.Works on new and existing applications.Designs APIs using modern technology stack.Performs hands-on API design and data mapping, mentors junior API Designers, and assists in architecting solutions.Analyzes existing systems to develop data models and data mappings to support overall end to end data flowServes as liaison to internal customers, research groups and various business support areas.Functions as the single point of contact to a cross-functional team for a variety of managed applications.Works with inter-departmental teams to analyze and understand business requirements.Provides technical expertise during the requirements gathering phase of a project.Accurately details new requirements, improvements to existing functionality, and implementation deficiencies that need to be addressed.Technical solution to include detailed design documentation, configuration, and other supporting technical documents.Provides technical documentation to internal business and design teams.Supports quality assurance efforts to gain user acceptance.Provides effective communication across the team as appropriate.Facilitates design and technical meetings.Implements enterprise policies for security and confidentiality at the system and inter-system level.Collaborates with product owners and scrum masters to manage product backlog and prioritize user stories and defectsPerforms root cause analysis on production and testing issueRequired Skills Good understanding of software development engineering principles, frameworks and technologies.Knowledge of supporting messaging standards including XML, XSD, WSDL, JSON and RAML Experience with Postgres and Oracle databases with Intermediate SQL skillsGather business specifications and technical requirements, and translate them into solutions creating well structured, maintainable and easy to understand Solution Design Document or Technical Design DocumentStrong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills with attention to detailA good decision-maker, with proven success at making timely decisions that keep the organization moving forwardAdept at planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goalsAdept at building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives and goalsCapable of building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutionsAn effective communicator, capable of determining how best to reach different audiences and executing communications based on that understandingA contributor in a team environment, as well as able to function independently and learn new technologiesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related subject area.Knowledge of Life Insurance Standards like ACORDDesired QualificationsKnowledge and experience in Life Insurance and Annuity industryIn-depth knowledge and experience with ACORD Standards Ability to read and understand MuleSoft and Java codeRequired Experience7 years' experience in Information Systems, Insurance preferredExcellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skillsExperience in web or cloud-based applications is highly preferredThe salary range for this position is between $105,000 - $160,000.
